REGULAR
MAINTENANCE
Excess Water
If
your floor has been exposed to excessive water, e.g., by accident
or flooding, mop up the water as soon as possible and ventilate
the room. A dehumidifier should be promptly turned on in the
room to reduce the moisture level to normal. Do not dry the
room below the normal moisture level that existed previously.
If
you wish to seal joints and provide protection to areas of the
subfloor below the tile seams, you may use Halstead High Sheen
Flor Finish 72 hours after installation or any time thereafter.
By waiting 72 hours after installation you provide time for
the self stick adhesive to properly bond.
This
procedure is recommended where there is a high risk exposure
to moisture, such as in bathrooms or kitchens. However, please
note that ,although the joints may be sealed, there is no guarantee
that you subfloor will not absorb some moisture if exposed to
excessive water for any length of time.
Scratches
If
accidental deep scratches appear on the floor, it might be necessary
to replace damaged tiles. For this reason, always retain some
excess tiles from the same batch at the time of your original
purchase.
First
mark the tiles that require replacement. Then score the damaged
tiles diagonally with a utility knife taking care not injure
any adjoining tiles.
Point
a warm air hair blower about 4 inches from the center of the
tile surface for about 45 seconds, then pry up the tile, starting
from the middle. If the tile continues to be difficult to remove,
apply more heat until it is pliable and the adhesive releases.
If
the subfloor surface is still smooth, apply the new tile; if
the surface is rough or uneven, smooth it with a floor patching
or leveling compound.
If the scratches are fine and are the result of normal household
use, it is recommended you simply fill them with one or more
coats of Halstead High Sheen Flor Finish.
