Underfloor Requirements

Pre-treatment of the underfloor:

Only lay Topflor on an underfloor that is completely level, dry, clean and firm.

Smaller irregularities (<2 mm) are evened out by the underlay (footfall sound insulation). Smooth down or fill in irregularities of more than 2 mm.

Level off old curved floor-boards. Lay the panels in the opposite direction of the existing wooden floorboards.

Using Lower Layers

In order to damp-proof and to provide a vapor barrier, especially for rooms which are not over a cellar, over garages, on cement floors (screed) as well as rooms with floor heating, a PE film (0.2 mm) has to be laid beneath the Topflor flooring.

The strips should overlap by at least 20 cm and then be stuck down. Stick the strips approx. 5 cm up the wall and later cover with the skirting board.

For footfall sound insulation and thermal insulation, please use bases such as PE foam, foam felt, cork or granular cork.

This is laid down end-to-end without overlap or adhesive. Or use our Topflor combination underlay made of moisture-regulating ribbed cardboard.

This underlay is laid end-to-end and stuck down with adhesive tape which is moisture resistant (advantage: only one work step).
