Laying Topflor - Special Applications

Topflor with Floor-heating

Advantages

Topflor is eminently suitable for use with warm-water floor heating. Properties such as favorable resistance to heat transmission, natural trading warmth and constant distribution of surface temperature mean that Topflor even helps to save heating costs.

According to the test results obtained to date, Topflor is not suitable for use with electric heating

Preparations for Laying Topflor With Floor Heating

1. The screed must be laid professionally according to the DIN norm.

2. Mineral subsoil has to be heated before Topflor can be laid to prevent any leakage of moisture which could damage Topflor. This is necessary at any time of the year.

3. With a cement flooring, this heating can be performed after three weeks and with anhydrite screed after one week.

4. Increase the temperature in 5 C steps per day until the maximum heat output is reached.

5. Let heating run at maximum heat output for 72 hours without reducing the temperature.

6. In order to ascertain whether the flooring is dry, use several pieces of PE film (approx. 50 x 50 cm), gluing the edges down. If no condensation has formed under the film after 24 hours and if the color of the flooring is unchanged, you can start to lay Topflor.

7. One to two days before laying Topflor please switch the heating off. The surface temperature of the flooring should be between 18 C and 20 C when laying Topflor.

8. If a heating engineer has turned the heat on and off, he is obliged to provide you with a heating report.

9. Lay a PE film
(0.2 mm) for damp-proofing and as a vapor barrier. Overlap the strips by at least 20 cm and glue them down. Stick the strips approx. 5 cm up the wall and later cover with skirting board.

10. For footfall sound insulation and thermal insulation, please use bases such as PE foam, foam felt, cork or granular cork. This is laid and stuck down end-to-end without overlap. Or use our Topflor combination underlay made of moisture regulating ribbed cardboard. This underlay is laid end-to-end and stuck down with adhesive tape which is moisture resistant (advantage: only one work step).

11. The flooring panels are then glued in the tongue and groove joints in the manner described with a D3 glue.

12. When the glue has had 24 hours to set, again increase the floor heating in 5 C steps each day until the maximum heat output has been reached. The heating method has to be repeated for each new heating period.

13. The surface temperature of your laminate floor should not exceed 26 C. During the heating period, the ideal room temperature is 20 C to 22 C with a humidity of 50 %-60%.

Topflor can also be glued down when floor heating is used. Please note the instructions which are applicable for
full bonding and, if necessary, contact your local professional.
